Hello, everybody, DoctorShrinker here. Last time I updated, a lot was talked about. Build updates, Lore updates, system updates, you name it. Impressive content, to be sure, but there was an element missing. Something that didn’t quite make the product what it should’ve been, much like how there is no cherry on the icing or gravy on the mashed potatoes. It felt empty, and much of us could see that there was a flaw. Well, rest easy, friends, for I believe I’ve solved the problem…
We forgot to mention our Alpha release date.
Yes, dear reader, you read that correctly. After approximately 8 months and 6 days in development, after painstaking hours of blood and sweat being sacrificed to meet deadline upon deadline and quota upon quota, we’re finally ready to release the Alpha for The New World Roleplaying Server. Now, obviously, much of you are frothing at the mouth, clawing at your screen, or hopefully calming down assured loved ones who dialed 911 to save you from a seizure. Despite that, I imagine many questions are following this announcement, and I aim to answer the ones I thought of off of the top of my head down below. So, let’s get started:
Q. When is the date of Alpha Release?
A. We will be releasing the server for open Alpha testing on Friday, September 30th.
Q. Wait...Alpha Release? Testing? What does that mean?!
A. Well, we aren’t fully released yet, and I believe that’s the biggest difference in comparison to what most people were expecting. What Alpha means though, is that we’re still working out kinks in the server that will need fixing before full release. I’ll touch up on this in some of the later questions, so if you’re confused, keep reading, and I may answer any further questions.
Q. Will I need an approved Character Application to get online?
A. No. You will not require an approved Character Application to get online, meaning there is no whitelist or prerequisite to Alpha test. However, one will require an approved Character Application to play when we’ve fully released.
Q. Will I be able to roleplay?
A. This brings me to elaboration on the previous question- Sorta. Roleplay will be permitted, but will be both limited and will not tie in with canon lore upon official release. Like with the Alpha Release question, I will touch up upon this in a bit.
Q. So, what still needs to be finished?
A. Much of the information revealed last update ties in intensively to this update, and still holds true. For the time being, building is essentially finished, but the map still requires some touch ups. The major work is being placed on systems and plugins, mainly our class system, medical system, among others, which will be necessary before our full release.
Q. Since it isn’t a full release, I imagine there will be restrictions, right?
A. You imagined right. Now, in no way are these limitations going to beat down heavily. However, it should be mentioned that some restrictions will include a limited exploration area outside of cities, roleplay not being canon, and ships will not be usable. Keep in mind, that these will be lifted following full release.
Q. What’s the point of an Alpha Release?
A. There are many answers to this question, but I believe the driving point to an Alpha Release is showing off our work and making sure that it’s pleasing. Build Team, Lore Team, and Executive Staff alike have worked hard these last 8 months, and we’d like to make sure that our greater fan base are not only impressed by pleased with the work. Couple this with testing the player limits of the server and verifying the systems we do have in place, and it’s clear there are numerous benefits for our part.
Q. ...Okay, that’s cool and all, but I meant what’s in it for me?
A. Oh. Well, along with the various benefits for our side of the coin, Alpha gives you guys the base of the server. If anyone remembers back to AoA’s “Alpha” or its Testing Phase before release, players could interact and build relationships as well as prepare for the full release of the server. Additionally, we may be allowing for a player-open creative server, so that players may show their creativity while they wait.
Q. Will there be a Beta Release?
A. Either there will or there won’t. Really, our staff cannot think of a logical reason for one as the only restrictions that could be listed are testing for systems which we’ll do throughout Alpha anyway. So, at this stage, it’s unclear, though we’re leaning more toward a no and just skipping right ahead to full release.
Well, there you have it folks! The New World has been officially confirmed for an Alpha Release in the next two weeks! We hope this has answered any of your questions, and we cannot wait to see you online!
